OLLANTAYTAMBO AND OLLANTAYTAMBO VILLAGE

Located 76 km northeast of Cusco, gateway to the Amazon region of Cusco, and where the Vilcanota River change its name to Urubamba River. The location of Ollantaytambo is strategic, for many people it is the end point of the Sacred Valley, it is also considered the gateway to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, where you have 2 options: Take the train to Machu Picchu Pueblo or walking by the ancient Inca Trail. Ollantaytambo is one of the most monumental architectural complexes of the Inca Empire, named after the famous legend about the rebel general Ollantay. Its design as the basis of most of its buildings corresponds to the original alignment of the time of the Inca (the Inca streets still maintained their names). The amazing cobblestone streets, canals and the Temple dedicated to St. Santiago Apostol built in 1620.
